The Things I Learnt For M
yself in South Korea Delegation.
Again, I found a suitable time to continue writing things I had learned from South Korea. Sincerely, I did really experience a fruitful technical visiting to KAIST & Yonsei University and the days visiting to Daejeon and Seoul last two weeks.
There are things that have really changed my mind and there are things really inspired me so far. I like Seoul is because it’s a place that has really led me to another level of life of thinking.
I like the most sentence is when my teammate told me as following:" Chai, it is time for you to change and to adopt the new culture for Malaysians, and you should pick up the straw that fell from your cup on the ground”. I first wanted to ignore the straw that falls from my hand but I need to pick it up if I want to change for the betterment of Malaysia.
95% of Malaysians will ignore the “falling straw” and let it be since they know the cleaner is responsible for it later! When most Malaysians are choosing to maintain its attitude & mindset, but I cannot because I need to change the country. I cannot delay its changing, I need to change it immediately and so I picked the straw.
“Sustainability means that the meet of the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. Then,
“Sustainable Culture means the culture that can be brought & adopted to the present & future generation by maintaining the good values & positive thoughts to the society and it needs to start by today”!
Here, I would try my best to conclude 8 things I think the best for me myself:
1. Knowledge & Wisdom:
I don’t know how you differentiate knowledge and wisdom. To me, I gained my Wisdom in the delegation whereby I got inspired throughout the exchange of culture, mindset & economy of Korea especially in Seoul. I like to say that:” I can steal your knowledge by reading more books but I cannot steal your wisdom because you are inspired with things rather than get it through experience”. You are good because you read more but you are Great when you are inspiring with your wisdom & thoughts.
2. Discipline & Attitude
No matter how smart you are, you need both good discipline & attitude to drive you into a success. When you are with any organization, you need to follow the rule & regulation. You might be the “law breaker” today, and it means you can break the law in other organizations too later. If you have doubt on the rule & regulation of people, team or organization, you can choose to leave but you should not have bad attitude here.
A man can make his successful life, if he really holds tightly with his “Correct Discipline” & having a “Right Attitude” in his journey of life.
3. RAPE = Responsibility, Attitude, Punctuality & Enthusiasm
A man will only succeed in his life when he has these four combinations. I am not sure how you define the logical sequence of this RAPE. But, I know I am the person who really concerns in your punctuality especially after Korea Delegation. You can have negative attitude, bad responsibility or low enthusiasm in certain purposes, but you cannot delay the time of others when you are in TEAM.
4. PARENTS
I thank my parents that they have brought me up until my “big size” today, haha. Sincerely, parents are looking the best for their children all the time. I am glad to have my parents that they are understood with my ambition and direction in life. Though I seldom go back and spend time with them, but they do really understand me and they never blame on me. Whatever it is, I believe your parents are always correct for you no matter how because they want the best for you in future. Sometimes, you may feel unhappy with their decision but they are actually looking for the best for you; anyhow, you need to tell when you things what are best for you to avoid regret & conflict later. But, I decided to choose things in my life when I am 17 years old. It is because I know what I want; I know what I really look for.
Thanks baba & mama for leading me for so many years.
5. Career
I know what I wanted to do and I know what the best career development for me later is. There are two possibilities, either I work at overseas and join the oil & gas industry or I choose to run my “little business” in Malaysia after my graduation. I need no courage for the first one but I need support & luck for the second option.
6. Relationship & Marriage
Again, I would like to share with people especially my friends & sisters that I know and I understand what I am looking for. I am still waiting for the suitable partner since I believe in marriage. No worries, I know she will appear one day in my life but I just don’t know when “she” will appear. After the first experience of relationship, I have changed & improved myself, changed things that made me a failure in the past and I think I can bring more happiness to the coming partner.
Anyhow, please don’t ask me when I will bring her home. I will sure introduce to you all when I get her later, haha...
7. Confidence & Confident
I am happy when I know I am confident in my presentation that day at Yonsei University. I believe I gained my confidence in my presentation & communication skills. Though they were few professors in front of me, but I can present smoothly to the audience.
Previously, I know my problem when presenting things but I know I am confident today. When you think I am good in presentation last time but I know I am not. Anyhow, I am ready for many kind of presentations in future now. Cheers for myself.
8. Economy
I am wondering how South Korea did it for its economy after the Korea War in Economic Crisis 1997. They have Shipbuilding, Electronics (Samsung & LG), automotive (Hyundai & Kia). But, what can we proud of Malaysia? Of course, I hope that the Government & Industry could really work hard to control the commodities of palm oil & rubber tapes. We are one of the biggest producers but why we cannot the main controller. We need more R&D in Malaysia so that we can produce more products and expand our exports. BTW, I really hope that we can reduce our labour dependency. I don’t really see foreign labour at South Korea.
Sincerely, the cheap labours in Malaysia has really brought down the living quality & living level of Malaysia. A simple calculation here, I have 2k salary today and the daily expense is 20 ringgit, but Government just get 200 bucks (rough taxation). But if I get 3 times of pay which is 6k of basic salary after the decrease in foreign labours, but for sure the living expenses will increase by few times and make it for 3 times so that the daily is about 60 ringgit (20ringgit x 3 times).
When everything seems like equal and equilibrium in your daily income and expense, but the Government gains its profits with 3 times more (600 bucks). Therefore, the Government can spend more money in the country’s infrastructure like public transportation, hospital & universities.
I am proud to see that Korean is trying to say no to “Imported Cheap Labour” in his construction and service industries. But, today we have seen most these labours are working at sites and restaurant! Why we need them? Why not we pay more for local people though we might increase the cost but eventually we can get back by seeing more public infrastructures are being constructed later!
